About Lisa Peternel


Lisa Peternel is a results-oriented operational and information technology risk management executive with over 25 years of experience. She has a proven track record managing operational, technology and cybersecurity risk for multinational firms including E*TRADE, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, Lisa has also developed and managed products at buy and sell side firms. She has in-depth expertise in assessing and mitigating risks to protect and safeguard a company, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

Lisa E. Peternel is currently the owner of Operational Risk & Cybersecurity Solutions, LLC. Her company aims to provide tailored solutions for reducing operational, technology and cybersecurity risk. Prior to this position, Peternel was recruited to be the Head of Operational and IT/Cybersecurity Risk with E*TRADE Financial Corporation. For nearly 6 years, she was responsible for building and leading the large bank operational risk framework for identifying and evaluating risks across the firm, including RCSA, IT/cybersecurity risk, third party oversight, business continuity, scenario analysis, escalation, issues management, risk acceptances, related policies, risk appetite statement and metrics, process excellence, loss tracking and governance. In this role, she also identified a Cyber Risk Framework to assess control quality and provide oversight. Lisa Peternel’s previous experience at JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Federated Investors were instrumental in preparing her for future roles.

Lisa E. Peternel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. She decided to continue her education, graduating from the RMA Advanced Risk Executive Program at The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. She also earned Series 7, 66, 52 licensing in prior roles.

In 2017, Lisa E. Peternel was the Operational Risk Keynote Speaker for the SIFMA IAS Annual Conference in 2017. She also served as a conference speaker in 2013 at the Operational Risk North America Conference in New York. Lisa has also shared her knowledge with others in her field as a panelist for the EY 2016 Inaugural Regulatory Reporting Symposium in New York. As a skilled communicator, Peternel is also adept at presenting to senior executives and board directors.

Through her career, Peternel has had the privilege of being a leader for the people around her. She has provided global leadership to operational risk and IT/cybersecurity teams, instilling a culture of strong risk management. Lisa also considers herself a champion of talent, providing mentorship and coaching to team members, leading the team to deliver best-in-class results. She is skilled in educating business leaders, as well, teaching them how to identify, monitor, track, mitigate and resolve risks while improving risk mindset and company culture.
